Hi Matthew, I think you need a trip to Morocco. It’s one of those magical lands where all your sense are piqued. From dassling colours, exquisite tastes, sensual textures, to the must delightful and foulest smelling aromas , and where there’s always music surrounding daily life. It’s a land of sensorial delights. I hope that you find the energy for a chapter 4 on splashes of colour I am thoroughly enjoying the read and personal insights on a subject that transcends the mundane. It’s quite funny or serendipitous that I had an interaction that resonates with what we are discussing at a market here in the Sth of France this morning and it reflects an insight from Carol Boender that certain environments and their light intensities influence colours and what we are instinctively drawn to . So , I was passing a bag stall as an African woman was setting up for the day and a very particular clutch bag design with beautiful floral patterns of passionfruit flowers , vines, and climbing pea flowers set on a white leather background with the most gorgeous green leather trim , handles and strap with stately designed gold buckles, caught my eye. I can’t say it was Spring Green but something more verdant and bright. Eye poppingly beautiful. I just had to pick it up and look at it more closely , marveling it’s design and told her I thought it was stunning. She look at me sincerely but hoping for a sale and replied “Monsieur you must be African you like colours so much. “ Such a nice and universal compliment to start my day with ! I really enjoyed reading about Andrew McAlpine’s energy, red cupboards and the crazy story about 28 tonnes of coal hungrily devoured by an all consuming mud bath dressed up as a film set. Mart and your adventures into mind blowing blues. Not too mention Anish Kapoor’s exclusive grab of Vantablack! quelle horreur! Is it ego that drives such behaviours? A grab to the rights of a black hole? That’s quite the opposite to International Klein Blue ( IKB ) , Yves Klein’s signature ultramarine blue , whose formula is widely known , not exclusive and for instance adorns the faces of The Blue Man Group and people use it as somewhat of an homage to it’s creator.

Aw, I appreciate this so much Alana. Thank you for your encouragements (given over many years) to listen out for a story that speaks to me, and then write it down. And then to listen out again, and write that one down as well. x
